Run 5 miles through 300 years of history!

Saturday, November 9 • 9 a.m.

Registration will open August 1

Immerse yourself in rural Iowa landscapes for this one-of-a-kind off-road race. You’ll splash through streams, plow through fields, and enjoy post-race treats from the Machine Shed. The course starts and ends in the 1876 town of Walnut Hill and runs through our three historic farm sites. Be sure to wave to to the horses, cows, sheep, and pigs! Awards given for overall winners, age division winners, and best costumes. Must be 14 to register. All finishers receive a unique cowbell medal.

Please note: Only registered runners and volunteers will be allowed on the race course.

AWARDS

Awards will go to the top two male and top two female runners overall, as well as the top two males and females in the following age divisions:

  • 14–19
  • 20–29
  • 30–39
  • 40–49
  • 50–59
  • 60+

Awards will be presented at 10 a.m. at the Visitor Center.

COSTUME CONTEST

We love costumes at the Living History Farms Race! Awards will go to favorites in the following categories:

  • Best individual costume
  • Best group costume
  • Best Will Ferrell costume

To take part in the costume contest, report to the volunteer check-in table (Visitor Center, MarketPlace) at 8:30 a.m.

KIDS’ RUN

Kids' Run course map

  • Saturday, November 9, 10:30 a.m. (Line up at Gazebo by 10:25 a.m.)
  • Free!
  • Age divisions: 5 and under, 6-9, 10-13
  • Adult family members may run along with children.

VOLUNTEER

  • Help with packet pickup, course support, or start/finish line
  • Qualifies for Silver Cord hours
  • Volunteer registration will open August 1
