  • 9–10 a.m. or 3–4 p.m.
  • Print Shop (morning class meets at Kemin Cultivation Center; afternoon class meets at Print Shop)
  • Enjoy a quick dive into letter-press typesetting and printing. Assemble the type for your first and last name in a historic font, then print two copies of your calling card on our hand-powered proof press. Be prepared for an inky shop environment.

Blacksmithing

  • 9–10 a.m. or 3–4 p.m.
  • Blacksmith Shop (morning class meets at Kemin Cultivation Center; afternoon class meets at Blacksmith)
  • Join our senior blacksmith for a peek into the craft of forging. Learn the basics of hammer and tongs as you forge your own dinner triangle. Dress for a sooty environment.
  • Ages 16 and up

  • 3–4 p.m.
  • Millinery
  • Start a knitting project with casting-on, basic knit and purl stitches, and reading a pattern. Class includes knitting needles, yarn, stitch diagrams, and patterns to take home.
  • Adult, or ages 10 and up with a paid adult

  • How do you test whether a cake is done? Today, you might use a toothpick or a knife. In the 1870s, they used a bristle from a broom! Learn more fun facts about the history of brooms as you make your own cake tester broom.

  • Join us to make fattigman, a Norwegian fried cookie traditionally enjoyed during the holidays! Learn to mix, shape, and fry this rich, crispy cookie on a historic wood-burning stove. Along the way, we’ll share the history of these classic treats, plenty of tips, and the recipe for you to try at home.
