Saturdays at 9:30 a.m.

Celebrate America’s 250 birthday with us! From our first president to the Revolutionary War to learning about Century Farms, we have something for everyone. Listen to a fun patriotic story or two about America in 1776. Then participate in crafts and/or activities based on those stories.  End by visiting some of our historic buildings.

  • Saturday, 9:30-11:00 a.m.
  • Please arrive 5 minutes early so program can begin on time
  • Location: Meet at Learning Center (off Hickman) except February 21
  • Dress for weather—program occurs indoors and outdoors

Registration

  • $34 for parent and child ($30 for members)
  • $12 each additional child ($10 for members)
  • Each ticket is for one session

Washington’s Birthday  ∙ February 21

Meet at Kemin Cultivation Center, 11121 Hickman

Celebrate the birthday of our very first president, George Washington! Hear a fun story about him and make a Washington craft.

America Before 1776 ∙ March 21

There were people here before America was founded. Hear a story about the voyageurs who opened the West to expansion. Do a little trading just like the voyageurs and Native Americans who lived on this land so long ago.

The Revolution ∙ April 18

The British are coming! Hear about Paul Revere and his famous ride. Make paper lanterns at our one-room schoolhouse and take a journey through our town.

Founding America ∙ May 16

Hear about some important figures who helped to found America. They had personality traits that were very useful in freeing our country from British rule. Do a fun craft and activity to celebrate these founders.

Our Flag ∙ June 20

Did you know there is a specific way to fold the American flag? Learn about the flag and flag etiquette at our one-room schoolhouse, then design your own flag to take home.

Then and Now ∙ July 18

A century farm is one that has been owned by the same family for at least 100 years. Hear the story of one such farm owned by the Peterson family. Compare and contrast the farm 100 years ago and now. Take a tractor ride to visit our 1900 Farm.
