2025 General Season Hours

May 1–Oct 31 • Tues–Sat • 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

Please plan at least 3–4 hours for a full farm and town experience.
Arrive by 2 p.m. if you want to tour the farm sites. If you arrive later, your tour will be limited to the town.
You must ride the tractor cart from the Visitor Center to the farm sites; there is no pedestrian access. Tractor carts leave about every 20 minutes—listen for the bell!
You may bring your own food and drink. You are also free to leave the museum and return later in the day.
Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Special event days

Tickets will be sold by entry time for Applefest.
On all other dates, your admission ticket is good all day.

Off Season

From November through April, we offer Historic Dinners and Teas, Historic Skills Classes, Day Camps, Barnyard Readers, and special events. We are also available year-round for facility rentals.

Admission Discounts

Group Pricing

Living History Farms offers discounted rates for groups of 12 or more. Book your visit by filling out our group reservation form or by calling (515)278-5286 x123. Cannot be combined with other discounts.

Military Discount

We offer $1 off admission for all active and retired members of the United States military and their immediate family, throughout our general season. Must show military ID. Cannot be combined with other discounts.

AAA Discount

$1 off admission for AAA members. Must show current AAA card. Cannot be combined with other discounts.

Living History Farms is located in Urbandale, IA, and is easily accessible from Interstate 35/80 (Exit 125, Hickman).

We are on DART Express Route 92.

Free Parking

Living History Farms offers plenty of parking outside of the Visitor Center, and it is always free!

Food Options

You may bring your own food and beverage. Picnic seating is available near the Visitor Center and and throughout the town site. You may also leave for a meal and come back later in the day. We offer limited snack options in our MarketPlace Museum Store.
