June 2 and September 1, 2017
Living History Farms’ Homeschool Days are the perfect opportunity for families to learn together! You and your children will have the opportunity to tour the museum’s many historic areas, participate in hands-on activities, and have fun! We suggest that you plan at least 3-4 hours for your experience.
The museum is open from 9:00am – 4:00pm. Activities will take place from 9:30am – 11:30am and from 1:00pm – 3:00pm.
This year, Living History Farms is celebrating communities. More than just places with physical boundaries, communities are groups of people that live or work together. Explore our 1700 Ioway Farm, 1850 Pioneer Farm, 1900 Horse-Powered Farm, and our 1875 Town and learn how the groups that lived and worked in these places defined their community, and compare them to the community you are a part of today. The first 50 people to pre-register for our June Homeschool Day will receive a $10 voucher to the Learning Post!
Culture is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as a “way of living that is passed on.” Culture is expressed in many ways – language, art, crafts, daily routines, home decorations, and so on. Explore all of the different cultures represented at Living History Farms, from the Ioway Indians of 1700, to the frontier culture of the 1850 Pioneer Farm, to the rural farm culture of 1900. In the 1875 town of Walnut Hill, explore Irish culture at the Flynn Mansion and Norwegian culture at the Tangen House. Learn how all of these traditions came together in the great melting pot of America. The first 50 people to pre-register for our June Homeschool Day will receive a $10 voucher to the Learning Post!
