Official communication will be via email to the email address you provided at registration.
If you haven’t received an email confirmation of your registration, please check your junk/spam folder to see if the email is there. Or you may have mistyped your email address. Please contact us at education@LHF.org or (515)278-5286 to confirm your registration.
We do maintain a waitlist. Please call us at 515-278-5286 to be added. When a cancellation is made for camps, we will call the first person on the list and give them 24 hours to respond. If they decline or fail to respond we will continue down the list.
No. Some camps do cook, but this is not on a daily basis. We do provide a snack time should you want to send something with your child.
Camp is a “high energy” activity, so campers should eat a hearty breakfast before arrival. Campers must bring a lunch. Refrigeration and microwaves are not provided.
You will receive a pre-camp email two weeks prior to camp, which will list your camper’s assigned flag color and counselor name. Add daycamp@LHF.org to your email contacts to be sure you receive this email. Campers need to arrive between 8:45am and 9:00am for the full day and morning half-day camps. Afternoon half-day campers need to arrive between 12:45pm and 1:00pm. Counselors will not be out to meet campers until this time. Half-day morning campers will return to the flag area at 12:00pm, while full day and half-day afternoon campers will return at 4:00pm to be picked up, unless registered for late pick up. Due to additional responsibilities, our counselors are unable to stay with campers past 12:15pm and 4:15pm respectively. Please make sure you have arrangements for them to be dropped off and picked up. In order to increase safety for your children, each camper will need to be signed out by a parent or authorized adult. You will need to show a picture ID in order to pick up a camper. We will be checking IDs every day. Please let your counselor know who is authorized to pick up your camper on Monday morning. If a person not on our list or someone without an ID tries to pick up your camper, we will call you for authorization.
Yes, before and after care is available for an additional fee for most camps. Early drop-off and late pickup are sold separately. The fee covers each day during the week. Campers registered for early drop-off can arrive between 8:00am and 9:00am. Those staying for late pickup need to be picked up at the Conference Center by 5:00pm.
Campers must arrive on time and leave at the scheduled time. For full day camps, if you will be unable to drop off at the start time, you can drop off your child at noon. If you need to pick up your camper before the end of the day, you can do so at noon. Please send an email to daycamp@LHF.org or call (515)645-9810 to let us know so we can be prepared. If a half-day camper cannot arrive on time or needs early pick up, they will need to miss the day.
Camp will take place inside and outside, so dress for the weather and potentially in layers. Closed toe shoes are required to be worn at all times.
Yes, they are a convenient way for your camper to carry their belongings.
T-shirts and photos may be purchased at the same time that you register for camp. During camp, your camper will have a chance one day during the week to visit the museum store to purchase souvenirs, if they wish.
All full-day camps run from 9:00am-4:00pm. Half-day morning camps run from 9:00am-noon, and half-day afternoon camps are from 1:00-4:00pm.
Camp is a program designed for children who can remain in a group setting without parental involvement. Exceptions are made for children needing an interpreter or one-on-one liaison.
As an accredited American Camp Association camp, our procedures regarding excessive heat and severe weather are in line with their best practices, and are reviewed regularly. During excessive heat, we do many things, including: incorporating more breaks for drinking, moving activities to shaded areas or indoors, playing more water games, and eating lunch in air conditioned buildings. During severe weather, such as thunderstorms, we move campers and camp activities to designated shelters for the duration of the storm.
Yes, we offer scholarships to cover a portion of camp fees. For details on our scholarships, visit the scholarship page, or call (515)278-5286 or email us at email@example.com. Scholarship applications are reviewed in the order in which they are received and are subject to eligibility requirements and availability of funds. Applicants will be notified of a decision in writing. Scholarships are available for all Living History Farms Day Camps. Members can apply for a scholarship when day camp registration has opened for members. Non-members can apply for a scholarship when registration has opened for the general public.
