You and your children will have the opportunity to tour the museum’s many historic areas, participate in hands-on activities, complete a special activity sheet, and most of all have fun! We suggest that you plan at least 3–4 hours for your experience.

You’re welcome to bring a picnic lunch, or to leave the museum and return later in the day.

Special demonstrations and activities

1700 Farm 9:30–11:30am and 1–3pm: Indigenous Ioway games, fur exploration

1850 Farm 9:30–11:30am: Wool work, churning butter
1850 Farm 1–3pm: Wool work, pioneer games

1900 Farm 9:30–11:30am and 1–3pm: Putting hay in barn, laundry on washboard

Flynn Mansion 9:30–11:30am and 1–3pm: Croquet on lawn, parlor games

Tangen Home 9:30–11:30am: Making fattigman
Tangen Home 1–3pm: Ironing with a Norwegian mangle

Broom Works 9:30–11:30am and 1–3pm: Binding brooms

Blacksmith 9:30–11:30am and 1–3pm: Welding demonstrations

Print Shop 9:30–11:30am and 1–3pm: Job press demonstrations

Drug Store 9:30–11:30am Making toilet water
Drug Store 1–3pm Perfume scent identification

Millinery 9:30am–2pm only: Making fans/language of the fan

Learning Center 9am–noon and 1–3pm: Spark!Lab Smithsonian
