The people of the Ioway nation were some of Iowa’s first farmers. Explore this Native American culture which gave Iowa its name. Visit our 1700-era Ioway Farm where farm staff will present demonstrations to showcase how the Ioway built their homes, prepared food, and farmed in the past. Guest presenters will demonstrate flint knapping and wood carving.
Also join us for the opening of an art exhibit featuring works by six contemporary Ioway artists. These works look, in different ways, at ourhistorical and modern relationships to the land and to wildness.
Be sure to allow time to ride the tractor cart out to the 1700 Ioway Farm. The last tractor cart to reach the Ioway Farm will depart at 2pm. Event activities are included in regular admission to Living History Farms.
