What prompted people to move west—to brave long trips in covered wagons, boats, and railcars? Some reasons were access to better farmland, the possibility of striking it rich in gold or silver, career opportunities, or climates more suitable to health. And no matter the motivation, space for personal belongings was at a premium! The objects displayed here are the possessions that 13 people deemed important enough to bring with them.
