Dave grew up on a diverse crop and livestock farm near Clarion, in North Central Iowa. He is currently a Research Director for Global Breeding Services in Plant Breeding for Corteva Agriscience. In that role, he oversees global parent characterization and global germplasm security, as well as multiple regulatory/compliance/stewardship issues for the Corteva plant breeding organization. Dave also is the Past President of the National Association of Plant Breeders and serves on the board of the Seed Science Foundation for the American Seed Trade Association as the Research Chair.
Dave joined Pioneer Hi-Bred in February 1998 as a Research Coordinator in Maize Product Development and became a Research Director in 2000. He conducted a corn breeding program and subsequently led various parts of the North America and Southern Europe corn breeding programs until fall of 2013. Since then, he has had several responsibilities, including Corn Product Program Director and Trait Integration Director. Before Pioneer, Dave was a corn breeder for Northrup King/Novartis from 1991 to 1998.
Dave enjoys gardening, running, hiking, biking, hunting, and almost anything that takes him on outside adventures with his family, including two grandchildren.
Dave earned his bachelor’s in agronomy and his master’s in plant breeding and cytogenetics from Iowa State University. He received his Ph.D. in plant breeding and crop science at North Carolina State University.
