Day Camp Policies & Procedures 2022

Registration Procedure

Choose the grade level your child will be entering in fall 2022 to see the available camps for their age group and sign up. Camps are grade specific and designed for their appropriate developmental stage. Campers must register for the camp(s) that match their grade level.

  1. Purchase your spot.
  2. Submit the Participant Info, Health & Consent Form. This is required for each camper. Registration is not complete until we receive this form. This form must be completed within 10 business days of registering for camp. Failure to fill out and return the form will result in your registration being cancelled (a physical is not required to attend camp). Camp staff are not authorized to dispense medications. They may however remind campers when to take medication.  Please note any medications on the Participant Info, Health & Consent Form. Only send medication for one day with your camper.
  3. Optional—We will try, but cannot guarantee, that friends will be placed together in the same group. If you want your camper to be placed with a friend, please let us know in the notes section of the Participant Info, Health & Consent Form.
  4. When registering for camp, it is crucial that you provide an accurate email address that will be checked often. This is how we will communicate with you about camp. You will receive email from these official email addresses; be sure to add them to your email contacts:
    • General program and registration questions: registration@lhf.org
    • Camp specific questions: education@lhf.org
    • Ticketing/receipt questions: ticketing@lhf.org
  5. Check your email for confirmation of purchase and camp information. Please make sure you have received this. If you don’t receive this, you may have mistyped your email address. Contact us at registration@lhf.org to correct the email address.
  6. An important instructional pre-camp email will be sent out approximately two weeks prior to camp to the email address you provided at the time of registration.
  7. About one week before, you will be contacted by your camper’s camp counselor who will review camp and answer any questions.

Membership

If you are interested in getting a discount for camp, please become a member before you register your child for camp. Only active memberships receive the membership discount. Lapsed members do not receive the member discount. The child attending camp must be listed on your Living History Farms membership regardless of the membership selected. To check the status of your membership, or to upgrade your membership, please contact members@lhf.org.

Wait List

  • If a camp is full, you may email registration@lhf.org to be placed on the waitlist.
  • If a spot becomes available, we will contact the first name on the list for that week of camp.
  • If we are unable to reach that person within 24 hours, we will go to the second name, and so on. A deposit is not required to be placed on the waitlist.

During Camp Week

Drop-off and pickup

Please drop off and pick up your child promptly each day. We do not assume responsibility for supervising children outside of camp program hours. We are unable to escort campers to join their group after camp has begun, and we are unable to escort campers to the pick-up area while camp is still in session. Please call 515-278-5286 if you need to pick up your child early or if you will be late.

Early drop-off and late pickup is available for an additional fee

As a convenience to parents and guardians, we offer the opportunity to drop off your camper early, or pick them up late, for most camps. This is supervised “free leisure time” and not an extension to camp. Children will have access to books and board games. While you are welcome to bring a child’s own entertainment, Living History Farms will not be responsible for any personal property left, broken, or lost.

In the afternoon section we will be offering a beverage and small snack (ex. Kool-Aid and goldfish). You are also welcome to send your own snack. Due to safety concerns, glass containers are prohibited. As we try to make this a safe environment, we encourage you to be aware in particular of peanut and nut allergies when sending lunches and snacks with your camper.

Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-9 a.m.: $45/week
Monday-Friday, 4 p.m.-5 p.m.: $45/week

Please note: Early drop-off is not available for afternoon-only camps. Late pickup is not available for morning-only camps.

Weather

  • Living History Farms Day Camp takes place both indoors and outdoors, taking full advantage of nature and the museum’s outdoor historic areas. As a result, camp activities may change as the weather dictates.
  • The museum has severe weather procedures and shelters, and staff regularly review and practice these procedures. Should a storm arise, we quickly implement our weather procedures to keep everyone safe.

COVID-19 Endemic

As the COVID-19 pandemic transitions to an endemic, we will monitor state and local guidelines and send an update of any necessary and related protocols the week before camp occurs. We do not require proof of vaccination or masks to participate in camp. If your child is sick and/or running a fever, please do not send them to camp. If a child is not feeling well or develops symptoms during the day, we will notify you as soon as possible and isolate the child from the camp group.
