Farm Life Barnyard Readers

Wednesdays in June and July at 9:30 a.m.

Story time on the farm! Explore and experience life on the farm. Start by listening as a staff person reads a book or two about the day’s theme. Do activities or crafts inspired by the stories.  Then, board a tractor-drawn cart for a ride to one of the farms where you will see the animals and tour the farm.

  • Wednesdays, 9:30-11:00 a.m.
  • Please arrive 5 minutes early so program can begin on time
  • Location: Meet at Learning Center (off Hickman)
  • Dress for weather—program occurs indoors and outdoors

Registration

  • $34 for parent and child ($30 for members)
  • $12 each additional child ($10 for members)
  • Each ticket is for one session

Program Descriptions

Chickens ∙ June 10

Chickens provide so much for us! Through funny stories, learn about these extraordinary birds and their life cycle, from egg to adult. Do chicken-themed crafts, then head to see the chickens on the farm.

Cows and Oxen ∙ June 17

This moo-ving program will help you learn about the two types of cows—milk and beef. Hear stories about silly cows on the farm, then head to the farm to see them.

Horses ∙ June 24

These horses are not for riding! They are helping the farm family by doing heavy work, pulling everything from plows to wagons to other farm machinery. Hear stories about horses and then travel to the farm to meet our team.

Pigs ∙ July 8

Did you know that pigs are incredibly intelligent? Hear stories about mischievous pigs. Make a pig-inspired craft and then travel to the farm to see these incredible animals.

Sheep ∙ July 15

What do sheep provide for us? Hear a story about the many things we can make with their wool. Make a sheep-inspired craft and then visit the sheep on the farm.

Tractors ∙ July 22

Tractors can now do all the work of horses on the farm! They plant and harvest crops that feed people and animals. Hear stories about these machines—old and new—and then see them working!
