Adult Tour Groups

Living History Farms is located in Urbandale, Iowa, and is easily accessible off the combined Interstate 35/80. (Exit 125 off of Interstate 80.) All visitors receive a short orientation and map at our Visitor Center. Tractor carts are available for transportation from the 1875 Town of Walnut Hill to the beginning of the "300 Year Walk" of historical farm sites. The walking tour of these farms is less than one mile along a beautiful wooded path.

3 Ways To Tour

Since tours are self-guided, guests can move from site to site at their own pace. Most groups spend between three and six hours to tour all the sites, but groups with just a couple of hours to spend can be accommodated.

General Tour - lasts 3-5 hours

Includes all three farms, town of Walnut Hill and the Wallace Exhibit Center.

Step Saver Tour - lasts 2-4 hours

Ideal for a group with time or mobility limitations. This tour includes the town of Walnut Hill, 1900 Farm and Wallace Exhibit Center, and omits the 1700 Ioway Indian Farm and 1850 Pioneer Farm, and the majority of the walking.

Town Only Tour - lasts 1-2 hours

Visitors are also welcome to tour the town only.
