Are you looking for an "out-of-the-ordinary" outing for you and a few friends? Then try one of the many adult and family education classes offered by Living History Farms.
Living History Farms offers classes where participants can try their hand at anything from cooking on a woodburning stove, to learning to drive a team of draft horses. Space is limited so that each participant can receive as much individual attention as possible. Held at one of the many historic sites at Living History farms, these classes are taught by experienced LHF staff.

Description: Just in time for Easter! Experience Victorian Easter egg traditions together in this parent/grand-parent and child class opportunity! You and your youth will learn all about chickens as you meet a chicken up close, and use fresh eggs to make a tasty snack using a Victorian – era woodburning stove. Youth will fold Victorian decorated paper to make a basket, dye eggs using natural dyes, and decorate finished eggs with vintage scrap pictures. Finish off the class with a 19th century egg roll and egg hunt. All cost of materials included in the cost of class. And, yes, you will get recipes to take home and try! Advance registration required in order to have enough food and supplies! No registrations taken the day of the class.

Description: Explore the Victorian kitchen with your child, on this “early out” day from school. Learn how to read a recipe, measure and mix ingredients, and roll out dough the old-fashioned away! This basic woodstove cooking class is designed to get kids and parents/grand-parents busy in the kitchen together! Description: Do you need a refresher course on making bread from scratch? Would you like to try baking in a wood burning stove? If so, try your hand at biscuits, yeast bread and cinnamon rolls in an 1875 kitchen while learning the history of bread making. Afterwards, sit and enjoy your creations. Description: Do you have a woodburning stove at home that you’d like to cook on, but have no prior knowledge of how to do it? Do you just want to try cooking like your great-grandparents? Roll up your sleeves and make beef stew, a vegetable side dish, bread, and a cake. Participants will learn the design of the woodstove and how to properly use it. After the meal is prepared, sit down to enjoy the food and ask last minute questions. Make sure to bring containers in which to take home left over goodies! Restrictions: 18 and older, please, for safety reasons
Description: Small class size guarantees lots of 1-1 instruction, and driving time! Learn the basic commands for driving a team of draft horses. Go through the process of harnessing and grooming a horse. Practice the basic commands by doing some ground driving, and then by driving a wagon. Bring gloves and dress for the weather and for being on a farm! Class will be held rain or shine.Participants will also receive handouts about the basic care of horses and basic driving techniques.
