Flynn Challenge - Living History Farms

Flynn Challenge

For the past year, Living History Farms has worked on restoring and preserving the Flynn Mansion, a national historic treasure, for future generations to enjoy.

The Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines has issued a special challenge, especially for the agriculture community. For every $2 Living History Farms raises from you, the Community Foundation will match it with $1.

With your support, we plan to raise $75,000 for this effort by November 1st, 2011. Please consider making a donation of $10 or more to help us reach our goal!

Thank you for your generous support!

Barb Lykins, Director of Community Resources for the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, presents a check to LHF President, Ruth Haus. The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation contributed $5,000 to help meet a challenge issued by the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines, with funds designated for the restoration of the Flynn Mansion at Living History Farms. Through the challenge, the Community Foundation will contribute $25,000 for the Flynn restoration once $50,000 has been raised from the agriculture community. Farm Bureau’s gift brings the total raised toward the challenge to $13,000. Also pictured are: Alex Heberer, interpreter at the Flynn Mansion; Dan Raedeker, Community Investment Associate for the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines; and Gene Maahs, LHF Board Member.

Kemin Industries along with company founders, R.W. and Mary Nelson, contributed $10,000 for the Flynn restoration project and to help meet the challenge issued by the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. This $10,000 gift will leverage another $5,000 through the Community Foundation challenge and brings the effort nearly half-way to the goal of raising $75,000 total for the project by November 1. Pictured are Kemin CEO Christopher E. Nelson, PhD and his wife, Linda P. Nelson.

Terry Garner, Production Manager, North America for Pioneer, A DuPont Business, looks on as LHF President Ruth Haus accepts a check from Michelle Gowdy, Pioneer’s Community Investment Senior Manager. Terry Garner is Chair of the Living History Farms Board of Directors.

Bill Brenton stands with LHF president Ruth Haus in front of the Flynn Mansion. The Brenton family, whose farm operations Bill manages, has given $1,500 to help meet the challenge from the Community Foundation of Greater Des Moines. Their gift leverages another $750 as part of the challenge, bringing us to $51,750 of our $75,000 fundraising goal for the challenge.  Bill is a former LHF Board member, representing the third generation of Brenton family involvement with Living History Farms.
