Registration For All Camps

Registration is now open for Living History Farms members for the 2010 Day Camp program. 

Living History Farms members are entitled to early registration! Summer Day Camp registrations received from members will be processed first in the order received. Registrations from non-members will then be processed, starting February 19. It’s easy to become a member!

Registrations are accepted on a strict "first come, first served" basis using registration forms. Phone or e-mail registrations are not accepted. To request a camp brochure and/or registration form, click below to download the PDF or call 515-278-5286, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The $25 processing fee is non-refundable and covers administrative costs.

VISA/MasterCard accepted, but checks are preferred. Total camp fee is charged at time of registration.

In 2010, we  offer these unique camp programs:

The day camp program at Living History Farms provides a wide variety of
opportunities to experience history and nature in all their various forms. Beginning with
children going into first grade through those going into ninth grade, we give them fun,
indoor and outdoor activities that help them explore their Iowa heritage.

KINDERCAMP - For children going into first and second grades we offer an
introduction to day camp with half-day programs of games and activities that are
age appropriate.

IOWA IN THE MAKING - Children entering third grade will travel through time
exploring Iowa’s early history beginning with the first agriculturalists in 1700,
pioneers of the 1850s, Iowa community life of the 1870s to the farmers of the 1900s.

IOWA’S HERITAGE - Children entering fourth grade will touch on the many ethnic
groups that made up Iowa’s population while experiencing the different time periods.

DISCOVER NATURE THRU HISTORY - Also for those entering fourth grade.
They will explore their environment and look at how nature may have influenced the
lives of early Iowans.

IOWA’S RESOURCES - Those children entering fifth grade will learn about the
architecture of the various time periods and how Iowans, from Native Americans
to the turn of the 19th-century used what was available to them for building materials
and leisure activities.

HERITAGE, TRADES, AND CRAFTS - Children entering sixth grade will visit the
tradesmen, craftsmen, and various heritage sites.

CAN YOU DIG IT? - Also for those going into sixth grade we’ll be digging into our
past and exploring where we came from and where we are today.

DEER RUN - Students entering seventh grade can explore Native American customs.

CAMP OF DISCOVERY - Students entering eighth grade can explore trailblazing,
mapmaking and botany.

CAMP VICTORIA - Young ladies entering seventh, eighth, or ninth grade can learn
about proper Victorian etiquette and how to prepare a tea.

General Camp Information

Facilities:
Living History Farms is located on 500 acres of rolling prairie interspersed with timber and a small stream. This outdoor setting provides a practical landscape for camp experiences. If you have any questions about Summer Day Camp, call the Day Camp Director at 515-278-5286.

Placement:
Our policy is to place campers in their appropriate groups according to grades on a "first come, first served" basis. Our day camp provides an excellent opportunity to meet and make new friends! (There is no assurance that campers will be placed in the same group with friends. However, we may upon request place two or three friends in the same group. Four or more will be divided into two groups.)

Health/Consent Form:
Children registered to take part in camp must have a health statement from a parent or guardian regarding allergies, chronic illnesses or medications. A physical exam is not required.

The Farms will also request parent/guardian consent to use a camper's photograph or video taped image for promotional use. Consent to use a child's photograph or video taped image is not required for participation in Summer Day Camp.

Daily Schedule: Please drop-off and pick-up your child on time each day. Living History Farms cannot assume responsibility for supervising children outside of camp program hours.

Location: In the city of Urbandale, 10 miles NW of downtown Des Moines, Iowa. Exit #125 (Hickman Road/Highway 6) on the combined Interstates 35/80 at 11121 Hickman Road.
